Clinton says she leads in popular vote

Clinton says she leads in popular vote

This is a sticky situation. She’s declaring a lead in presumed general election voters on the presumption that if Obama had campaigned in MI and FL, he would not have garnered any more votes. This presumption is obviously fallacious, but does underscore how tight the election is wit regard to the popular vote.

Not that it matters. Neither the primaries nor the general election are decided by popular vote, and due to the Obama team’s “strategery,” they are well ahead in pledged delegates and superdelegates, which DO matter. I’m confident that this same game plan will render similar gains in the general.

I hope other states are learning from MI and FL. I hope Dean sticks to his guns and punishes them for openly calling the party chair out.

The Anti-Hijacking Safety Bracelet

// April 19th, 2008

Bad, Bad Idea: The Anti-Hijacking Safety Bracelet | Autopia | Wired.com.

A bracelet that airplane passengers could wear.  Using radio frequency signals, particular bracelets could be activated, causing them to emit electro-muscular disruption and incapacitate terrorists.

I had an old electronics kit that could send radio frequencies.  I wonder if terrorists might be able to incapacitate others on a plane.  And how hard is this bracelet to remove?  All kinds of problems with eve the safety features of this half-baked idea.  And we haven’t even gotten to the part about making everyone who rides on an airplane wear an EMD bracelet, and the lawsuits that might follow ifwhen this thing misfires…

YouTube – ABC News: Bush advisers approved torture

// April 15th, 2008

I believe the blurb below in an email, and think it to be true.

YouTube – ABC News: Bush advisers approved torture

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice chaired explicit White House discussions about which torture techniques should be used on prisoners.

They “were so detailed” that “some of the interrogation sessions were almost choreographed — down to the number of times CIA agents could use a specific tactic.” This is the first time that we have evidence that senior officials, “not only discussed specific plans and specific interrogation methods, but approved them”. Given these new revelations, Condoleezza Rice can not continue as Secretary of State.

An interesting piece on typography and graphic design in the context of a presidential primary.

Suicide Machine

Interesting concept.  Due to the increase in medical costs and numbers of elderly due to the baby boom, there’s no way we’ll be able to afford NOT to let people kill themselves.

How NOT to get out of a speeding ticket

This man has a willful disregard for authority that I kind of respect, and would respect more if it weren’t articulated at the top of his voice.
