Ed Rosenthal, who I’ve smoked with, was re-convicted today. While he faces no jail time, no fines, and no probation, his conviction does set a troubling legal precedents. This case, like the one thrown out before, made a mockery of justice by refusing to tell jurors that Rosenthal was

acting under the auspices of the Oakland Cannabis Buyers Cooperative — deemed an officer of the city by Oakland’s City Council — to grow marijuana for use under the state’s medical marijuana law.

In other words, that another division of government had told him he could do this.

Pak boys shear Sikh student’s hair-The United States-World-The Times of India

This isn’t your typical hate crime.  Two Pakistani students cornered a Sikh student in the bathroom of a Queens high school, and proceeded to cut his hair, which is considered sacrilegious to Sikhs.

I was wondering to myself as I read about Bush’s second veto why he didn’t just attach a signing statement. His other veto was a very definitive attempt to send a message; this one is as well. The only difference, in this case, is that he has no budget now. This begs the question – why not just attach a signing statement that nullifies the timetable?
