This break has been wonderful.  My friend Angad came up on Monday, and I picked him up from the airport.  On Tuesday, we went to see my school, and I organized my desk.  On Wednesday, we went to Union Square and Trader Joe’s for chews.  On Thursday, we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, then I went and got a new kitten!  On Friday, we went shopping downtown, and I got $100 worth of painting supplies that I have had on Christmas lists for years (thanks mom for the funds!).  Today, we took it easy, and tried to hook up our DSL connection (to no avail, fuck Verzion).  Now we’re headed downtown to Buddha Bodai, a Tibetan Buddhist restaurant downtown.  Tomorrow, we’ll chill in the morning, then head downtown to watch the ball drop in the evening.  Then, Angad will leave Monday morning, and I’ll start planning for the next three weeks of school.

As an aside, I was recently notified that I have been selected to come back to Mizzou to recruit!  I have tentatively planned to do this Jan. 22-26th…woohoo!

Holy Shit.

MARYVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A Kansas City man is accused of trying to kill his estranged wife by stabbing her at a Maryville, Ill., hotel.

Eric Thompson, 27, was arrested Tuesday at his home on charges of attempted first-degree murder and armed violence. Thompson’s bond is set at $1 million.

Maryville police responded early Saturday to a report of a dispute involving a couple at an Econo Lodge. They arrived to find Elizabeth Walker, 24, on the parking lot with multiple stab wounds.

She since has been released from a hospital.

The “estranged wife” in question is my friend Beth Walker.  Having been stabbed 11 times, she is doing fine now.  Interestingly enough, this same guy told Beth she was not to hang out with me any more because he didn’t trust me, even though Beth and my friendship has never been anything more than plutonic.  She chose to cut me out of her life at that point, but called me about a year later to apologize when they got divorced.  And a year later, he does this.  I feel bad for her.  I hope he goes away forever, and she moves in the meanwhile…
