I endured an all-day interview for Teach For America today. If accepted, I will be placed in some of America's worst classrooms for two years. I've often said before that if our government should fund any one thing, it's education, because from that all else follows. At some point previous to applying, I realized this was an opportunity to put my money where my mouth is. A good opportunity, at that.

My interview began with each applicant teaching a 5-minute lecture. I taught about parts of speech, particularly adjectives, and had a heavily mad-libs formula. From there, we went to group problem solving, then reflection. Then we learned about TFA, and had time to ask questions. Finally, we had a 40-minute individual problem-solving session. Later in the day, there was another 1 hour personal interview. I must say, through all of this I felt very comfortable, and also motivated. One gets the feeling that this organization is very well-organized, and exceedingly effective.

I won't hear back about an actual placement until mid-January, but I'll hear if I was accepted in December. Continually wish me luck.

Also today, during my lunch break, I met with my freshman year science teacher and my friend Ryan to discuss making a website for "Citizens for Science." We will soon go live with MoScience.org, Missouri's part of a national effort to debunk Intelligent Design. On top of that, I even got free lunch out of it!
