When I was a little kid, I would sometimes stare at neon-colored paper, and then at a piece of white paper or (even better) a checkered floor. The trick is that your cones get strained when viewing intense color, and they continue to send the message when you look away...making things look kind of neon all over.
I realized tonight while watching wrestling with my roommate that the faux sport does something similar to the "logic receptors" of my brain. If I watch wrestling for long enough, then I start watching ESPN, no matter what sport is being covered, I am pretty convinced it is all semi-scripted and completely fake. Even though I am aware this is not the case, through the wrestling prism all contests seem predetermined and melodramatic.
Just as I don't look at neon paper anymore, I am of the mind that perhaps I should give up wrestling as well...
